Gift Day Sunday 13th July 2-4pm at The Church.
Julia and Ian Kitchin will celebrate their Diamond wedding on 17th July and in recognising this, they will be providing the refreshments at the Rishton Gift Day (Sunday 13th July: 2pm-4pm) and looking forward to seeing you all there.
They were married on the Saturday of the 'July Holidays' 1965 and, after honeymooning in Wales, moved into temporary rented property next to the Greyhound Track in Blackburn.
Their first encounter with Rishton Methodist Church was attending the evening service on 1st August when Annie Butler was the preacher. Here, they were made welcome and soon integrated into the society. The Methodist Church became their main interest and they served the church at local, circuit, and district levels for over 50 years 'til old age and infirmity overtook them.
They were blessed with three children whose upbringing in the church is reflected in that one is now Anglican, one Methodist and one Baptist!

“The Bucket List”.
The Bucket List is a 2007 American buddy comedy-drama film directed and produced by Rob Reiner, written by Justin Zackham, and starring Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman.
Zackham coined the expression "bucket list" after he wrote his own "List of Things to do Before I Kick the Bucket" and shortened it to "Justin's Bucket List". The first item on his list was to "get a film made at a major studio". This list gave him the idea for the screenplay, and The Bucket List became his first studio film.
Billionaire Edward Cole and car mechanic Carter Chambers are complete strangers, until fate lands them in the same hospital room. The men find they have two things in common: a need to come to terms with who they are and what they have done with their lives, and a desire to complete a list of things they want to see and do before they die. Against their doctor's advice, the men leave the hospital and set out on the adventure of a lifetime.
The film starts at 2pm and afternoon tea served about 3.45pm.Come for both or just for tea!
No charge just donations towards the cost of afternoon tea.
Poem/ Lectionary Reflection: Amos
Was he a professional prophet?
No, he wasn’t.
Was he the son of a prophet?
No. he wasn’t.
Did he earn money from preaching?
No, he didn’t.
Amos had been a shepherd.
Amos had worked as a farmer.
Amos had been called from the fields and sent out into other fields by the God who had granted him visionary powers.
Amos had no personal axe to grind.
Amos did not condemn people on his own account. Amos simply told people what God showed him. Yet his prophecies live on and the imagery of his visions remains and his words are written for all to see,
even now.
It just goes to show
what God can do
with the most unexceptional people
in the most extraordinary circumstances.
Always providing
that those people are prepared
to listen to God’s call
and act on it.
