Gift Day Sunday 13th July 2-4pm at The Church.
Julia and Ian Kitchin will celebrate their Diamond wedding on 17th July and in recognising this, they will be providing the refreshments at the Rishton Gift Day (Sunday 13th July: 2pm-4pm) and looking forward to seeing you all there.
They were married on the Saturday of the 'July Holidays' 1965 and, after honeymooning in Wales, moved into temporary rented property next to the Greyhound Track in Blackburn.
Their first encounter with Rishton Methodist Church was attending the evening service on 1st August when Annie Butler was the preacher. Here, they were made welcome and soon integrated into the society. The Methodist Church became their main interest and they served the church at local, circuit, and district levels for over 50 years 'til old age and infirmity overtook them.
They were blessed with three children whose upbringing in the church is reflected in that one is now Anglican, one Methodist and one Baptist!
Table Top and Craft Sale: BAKERS and HELPERS needed - we need help!
Setting up from 2pm on Friday. Church stalls set up, and tables set out ready for those hiring a table. Please come along and help if you are able.
Saturday, 28th June is our first Table Top Sale, which includes a cake table run by the church. However, a large number of cakes are required for this, so if you can bake, can you please help? We are serving light lunches during the event, (with yet more cakes being sold in the cafe area), so why not come and visit the event, whether you have provided cakes or not? The tables are being used for a wide variety of goods, we hope to see as many people as possible on the day.
For information and table bookings contact:
Sharon on tunstallsharon2@gmail.com or 07930930514.
All tables to be booked and paid in advance by cash or bank transfer as soon as possible.
If you can help us, please inform Sharon or Madeleine, or add your name to the list which will be on the Foyer table this Sunday. Thanks
Church Breakfast
The next Church Breakfast will be held on Saturday 4th July at 9:00 when the speaker will be Ian Kitchin
MAYC reunion
To celebrate the 40th Year Anniversary since “Metamorphosis,” friends in the West Pennine Moors circuit have planned an MAYC reunion. This will take place on Sunday 17th August at Rhyddings Methodist Church, Oswaldtwistle when the preacher at 10:30 will be Rev Keith Borwick. This will be followed by lunch and then an afternoon of coming together and sharing our memories and stories. It would be great to try to capture as many stories as possible, of what MAYC meant to you. Everyone is welcome, just let us know that you are coming so that we can ensure that we have sufficient food for everyone at lunch!

New Nursery at Rishton Methodist
We now have a nursery section at our school and anyone seeking places for pre-school children is invited to an Open Morning on Monday 14th July between 10:45 and 11:45. See poster below.
AND FINALLY.. ( From a cautionary pen?)
An elderly couple, having enjoyed a meal in a swanky restaurant were driving home when, "Hey Edgar!" the wife said, " You'll have to go back I've left my handbag under our table in the restaurant!
After uttering a couple of expletives whilst making a rapid U-turn, Edgar continued to berate her unkindly about the state of her memory and it’s inconsiderate effect on his life in general for the entire journey back to the eatery.
When arriving there, as she got out of the car to go and retrieve her handbag, his whole demeanour suddenly changed as he asked her somewhat timorously.
"Incidentally Florence, do you mind asking if anyone found my glasses and Credit Card while you're there!"
Prayer based on Luke 9:51 – 62
Loving God, thank you for your welcoming embrace.
Your acceptance of our imperfection is ever an example for us to strive for.
Forgive us when we fall short – when we are quick to reject and quick to condemn.
Inspire us to spread your love even when it is not reciprocated.
Healing God, give us the compassion and the resources to care for our brothers and sisters in difficulty.
Help each individual to find the solutions and the peace that they are seeking.
Help us all to learn from each other, to respect each other, and to realize what is truly important.
Let your priorities be our own.
We pray in the name of the migrant who loved us all more than we can comprehend. Amen
